Pond Hockey ~ Washoe Valley, Nevada

Been really busy lately and have neglected my blog…hopefully things will start to settle down in a bit.

Wanted to post some pictures of a hockey game we came across while out and about one weekend. After spending some time up in Virginia City we drove down through Carson City and then on the east side of Washoe Valley. At the north end is Little Washoe Lake…we stopped to eat our lunch and enjoy a hockey game.

The dogs were pretty funny…one was definitely the coach, barking his orders. :)

Red-Breasted Nuthatch

I forgot to share a few pictures I took on the 26th of October. We were at Bower’s Mansion State Park down in Washoe Valley…throwing some horseshoes when a heard a lot of noise up in the trees. Finally spied a wee birdie that acted like a kid hyped up on Mt. Dew. :)

FOR TODAY … 18 January 2011~

Outside My Window… people driving to work, high clouds, geese flying by…gonna be another BEAUTIFUL SPRING DAY in January!

I am thinking… I’m not! Rut-roh.

I am thankful for… Mom Nature’s 3 days of Spring…probably gearing us up for an upcoming blizzard, but I’ll take it! :)

From the kitchen… I just made broiled chicken breasts with white rice and steamed broccoli last night…not sure about tonight.

I am wearing… Jeans, tennies, blue TSHIRT, hair in ponytail.

I am creating… a pinwheel quilt. Lots and lots of bloody pinwheels…WHAAHAHAHAHA! Still feel that way about those pinwheels, but I finished them. Here’s what it looks like up on the design wall. Still have to figure out the borders.

Pinwheel Layout

I am going… have to call Progressive, we took that piece of shit Ford Thunderbird to Pick-n-Pull on Sunday (I’m sure it was a very good car in 1984)…now we have to invest that money into the Chevy pickup so it will go another year or so. Hopefully then we can look at something newer.

I am reading… quilting and fabric magazines.

I am hoping… that the Governor really doesn’t make us take a 5% pay cut…it took me a long time to get to where I’m at now. I don’t mind the 4.6% Furloughs that we’ve been taking for the last year….on top of no COLA (last 3 years), no merit (last 2.5 years), no steps (last 2.5 years), doing the work of two people (last 2 years), higher insurance, less benefits…just leave my salary where it’s at.

I am hearing… cars and birds.

Around the house… House still pretty clean…still amazed at that new vacuum cleaner. Is my house really that dirty? Or is it two cats and me?

One of my favorite things… Odwalla Superfood Juice! Sometimes I add a bit of protein powder to it. Yummy and good for you!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… piece my quilt top, watch a few movies, take some long walks.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

Washoe Valley ~ Slide Mountain…taken on last Saturday’s hike up Deadman’s Creek trail. Washoe Lake was partially frozen…as was parts of the trail.

FOR TODAY … 01 November 2010

Outside My Window… Sun is peeking up over the eastern hills onto The Sierras. The snow on Mt. Rose is very pretty this morning.

I am thinking… WHAT A GREAT GAME LAST NIGHT! MadBum pitched an awesome game, Freddy was just as great! Tonight is the Night, Boys!

My poor Buffalo Bills are 0-7! We lost another game in overtime! UGH! I guess I can look at this way…we have a perfect season so far! DOH!

I am thankful for…Friends, home, and yes…family too. :)

From the kitchen…a pizza! Game Five of the World Series is on!

I am wearing… Jeans, tennies, grey 3/4-sleaved shirt, hair down.

I am creating… Let see…I’ve cut the material, sewed it into blocks and get this! Just cut them into quarters and am in the process of sewing them back into blocks again! LOL! Just love quilting.

I am going…to go find some chocolate. Shouldn’t be too hard being the day after Halloween!

I am reading…Michael Perry’s Population: 485. Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time

I am hoping…I can survive this week at work.

I am hearing… Me grinding my teeth.

Around the house…laundry down in the basement and Halloween stuff to take down.

One of my favorite things…listening to Brian Wilson give an interview.

Giants Video The video is marked 10.31: World Series Game 4 Postgame — Brian Wilson (off on the right hand side between Madison & Buster).

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… to just get through the week. :)

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…This tree has been growing in the southwest part Washoe Valley for over 30 years (it was there when we moved out there in 1980). I think it’s on part of the List Ranch property. Here it is in all it’s Autumn Glory yesterday!

Washoe Valley and Virginia City Pictures ~ 14 March 2009

We took the long way to Virginia City last Saturday ~ via Washoe Valley and Carson City ~ I like driving through the valley I used to live in.

Just a couple of pictures from the West side off of Franktown Road…my sister had a friend that lived in the house next door to the barn.

The following are pictures I took up in Virginia City while walking to the Mountain Oyster Fry…these are all taken up on B Street, the street just above the main street through VC.

Nevada Photograph Note Cards

I’ve been slowly getting my blank note cards with my photographs on them up for sale at my ETSY SHOP ~ SLEEPY CAT HOLLOW. Mainly they are of Northern Nevada and Northern California area.

Please take a peek-see sometime! Here’s a small sampling ~

Bullock’s Orioles in Washoe Valley, Nevada

On that fieldtrip we took to Washoe Valley we thought the bird we saw a Western Tanager…but after looking closely at my sister’s pictures, it’s a Bullock’s Oriole. Am posting two of her pictures of the birds and one of their nests that I took.

Photographs from the Mark Vollmer Fieldtrip to Washoe Valley

Well ~ Saturday we all met up at TMCC’s Meadowood building and carpooled down to the south end of Washoe Valley. Our first stop (besides Wendy’s so Colleen could buy a hamburger) was the wildlife viewing area with the boardwalk.

Very windy (what’s new for Washoe Valley, eh?!) down there. Not much to see but blackbirds ~ both red-winged and yellow-headed. You can’t see far into the lake from the viewing platform unless you have a telephoto lens that goes to as least 200mm…mine only goes to 72mm. So I took lots of fence pictures ~

We saw a flock of pelicans towards the enterance of Washoe Valley State Park so three of us headed back to see if they were still there. Parked at the trailhead of Deadman’s Creek trail and walked over to state park. No pelicans, but there was a redtail hawk sitting in her nest, who flew off once we were close enough for pictures. The bugger. I walked down to the beach while my sister and mom stayed under a couple of bird nest. Colleen got GREAT photos of a Western Tanager…and continued to get great pictures while teasing me with none.

We then went back to the trailhead to wait for the rest of the group ~ took a few pictures in the bottom part of the trail. Figured out the stupid macro on my camera there.

Lots of Phlox, Indian Paintbrush and Alpine Lupine on the way up to the top and at the top where the gazebo is. Sunset wasn’t that great, but pretty none-the-less.

DESERT IN BLOOM SLIDESHOW ~ I put most of my pictures (I took over 200 so I’ve narrowed it down some) onto my webshot’s album ~ I’m nv_michelle there.
