Butterfly Migration through Reno/Sparks, Nevada! Easter 2009

Just wondering if anyone else in the Sparks area had noticed a huge amount of Painted Ladies in the sky yesterday. Lots and Lots of Flutterbys. 🙂 They were all heading WNW.

I took this picture last year…didn’t have my camera with me yesterday. 😦

Yes, Greg was out in my front yard and he called us saying that there was a steady stream of them fluttering down my street…They didn’t seem to want to stop…they were on a mission.

Wish I could get a closeup like that!

We are going to a butterfly exhibit next week. 😀 I cannot wait! We historically used to see a LOT of monarchs in the summer, but a blight in recent years apparently had a devastating effect on the population. What a treat two summers ago to see hundreds of them, stopping to rest near a lakeshore we were visiting. 🙂 They are now spotted more regularly again, hereabouts.

    Your shot is amazing!
