New Quilt Blocks ~ Nine Patch Variations

I’ve been looking at different quilting blogs and have come across two that have great tutorials…in which these two have caught my eye. Cluck Cluck Sew’s Disappearing Nine Patch and Oh, Fransson’s Crazy Nine-Patch.

I really like the blocks! Now I just have to figure out how I want to place them into a quilt. 🙂

For the Disappearing Nine Patch, I used two Moda’s Charm Packs that I’ve had for some time…Recess by American Jane. It makes a big block…about 13″.

For the wonky Crazy Nine Patch I picked out 9 different fabrics in the Cheep Talk line from Connecting Threads that I had bought months ago.

This was a fun block to make…although it was a bit hard to cut through the last two cuts. This makes an 8″ block.

I have five 1/2 yard fabrics from the Woodland Bloom line by Lila Tueller for Moda..I want more. Not exactly sure what I want to make with it yet, but I do know I’d like more fabrics from that line. They are VERY pretty. 🙂

UPDATE! I found two more pieces in this line here in town…now I have to turn to the internet.

And lookie! Sun hitting Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain this morning! A teaser from Mom Nature…as we’re getting more rain and snow tomorrow. Picture was taken looking out from the building here at work.

  1. I have made several quilts from Woodland Bloom, one from Quilts and More and the other 2 are coinstacks. I still love the fabric and have lots left over!

  2. Those blocks look fantastic – and I generally prefer a more traditional look. Well done. And I love your vibrant colours. You’ve given me another idea for something to try. Thank you.

  3. I have also made a disappearing 9 patch quilt using charm squares – Shangrila from Moda. I placed the patches so the small squares are in the middle of the block and had them all in shades of red. Brown and green borders and red cornerstones, it’s my favorite quilt so far.
Love your photo of the snow covered mountains, I am from Melbourne, Australia and it’s the second last day of summer.

  4. Thanks Michelle, charm squares are great for playing around with! It’s been windy here today and my two cats have been crazy.
