Purple Tomatillos!

Time to make some salsa for my Brother-in-Law ~ my sister’s two tomatillo plants are producing like crazy now.

FOR TODAY … 27 September 2010

Outside My Window…looking out the double doors and see sunshine on the trees, some faculty and students walking, cars buzzing too fast through the parking lot.

I am thinking… I need a Sunday re-do. If I would have stayed home, my car would still be old, but not missing any parts. Should be a good MNF game tonight…the Packers & the Bears! Hoping the Giants have a nice day off. It’s a bit nippy here in the warehouse/storage area that I call my office, wish I had brought a sweater with me this morning.

I am thankful for… that my car still runs, even though someone backed into it.

From the kitchen… nothing…I think I’m going to stop off and get some falafels from Giant Burger on the way home.

I am wearing… Shorts, dark grey t-shirt, tennies, hair in a ponytail.

I am creating… Trying to finish a crafting challenge before Thrusday’s deadline.

I am going… smack that lye calculator that suggested more lye to the water ratio…now I have three batches of fugly soap that cracked. It still is soap…just ugly and I can’t sell it.

I am reading… THE ONE HIGH POINT! I picked up a new book at Sundance Bookstore
Coop: A Family, a Farm, and the Pursuit of One Good Egg by Michael Perry. So far it’s a great read!

I am hoping… my friend, April, starts to feel better. Poor hurt ribs… 😦

I am hearing… Air unit, ice machine, me typing, doors opening and closing.

Around the house… a very clean bathroom…scrubbed the heck out of it before settling in to watch the SF Giants & Rockies play.

One of my favorite things… A good nights sleep…something I didn’t get last night worrying about my car.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… just put my head down and get through the week. Friday night is the Eagles concert.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

Friday Rambles…24 September 2010

UPDATE:
I’ve had a few (okay…MANY) Sierra Nevada’s…the boys won one in Denver…I got to see ANDRES TORRES and BRIAN WILSON! Neighbors having a nice bbq…the week is ending nicely. Yes, indeed! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! Andres IS BACK!!!!! I missed you SO MUCH!

It’s Friday…usually I’d say YAY! at this moment…but I’m still in a funk, I have a headache, it’s going to be 94F this weekend, there are loud and annoying motorcycles in town…the list goes on.

I’d normally say…let’s go down to Genoa and walk around the 90th Annual Candy Dance Craft Fair…but like I said above, it’s going to be HOT! Even up against the Sierra…it’s HOT!

~~~~~~~
Can’t walk downtown because of loud, annoying HD motorcycles…and people roaming around in clothes that, quite frankly, they have no business wearing! Makes me queasy. Some people really shouldn’t wear leather.
~~~~~~~

Can’t go up to Virginia City…well…because Harley’s go up there too, where the noise echos very loudly.

~~~~~~~
If it’s hot down here…it will definitely be hotter over in Placerville, so Apple Hill is out of the question.
~~~~~~~

The Giants are in Denver, so can’t go to a baseball game.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speaking of the Giants…COME ON GUYS! 13-0?! A few of us would like you to distribute the runs a bit more evenly over all your games. Feast or Famine! OY! The heartburn! And when you have blowout games like that I don’t get to see Brian close a game! The humanity of it all! I really need a Wilson fix once in a while!
ps: hurry up and heal, Andres! Miss you out in center field!
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Maybe Pyramid Lake! San Francisco is a little too far away (especially with no ball game to go to)…and I do need a body of water that’s bigger than the Truckee River and the bath tub.

~~~~~
I do need to finish a few quilts…but have been uninspired.
~~~~~~

I have cat “mentoring’ at the Nevada Humane Society next Tuesday…learn the ins and outs of what to do and not to do while volunteering with the cats. Maybe I’ll go volunteer this weekend and walk some dogs…I need the exercise and I’m sure they’d like to stretch their legs too.

~~~~~~
I finished reading The Colorado Kid earlier this week…not that great of a book. I think I expected more. I have absolutely no clue how they got SyFy’s Haven tied into Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid. Stephen King even wrote that you’ll either love or hate the book…well, I fall into the dislike range. Glad I read it, but won’t stay on my shelf.
~~~~~~

This is Jack…he likes Jose, Bushmills Black, Jameson, and Tullamore Dew. 🙂 He’s from California…made by Justin Moeller of JM Ceramics. He makes me smile…even without the Bushmills.

~~~~~~
Here’s to me snapping out of my funk! Talk to you next week.
Wordless Wednesday ~ Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco
Soapmaking on a state Furlough Day
How I spent my furlough day…hopefully making up some of the money that the State of Nevada taketh away.
Started off Sunday afternoon measuring out oils and butters into four separate baggies…that way I just needed to add the olive oil or safflower oil when needed.
After the SF Giants game I decided to go ahead and make up one batch…Oatmeal, Milk & Honey with Colloidal Oatmeal. UGH! Remind me to run my recipe through Lye Calculator before charging in…I was short 20 grams of lye in my water mixture. Took me ONE FLIPPING HOUR to bring to trace! My arm fell off.
While out this morning, my husband found out that I had the day off and asked for me to go to a thrift store to see if a jacket was still there, I found a hand mixer at the same thrift store! YEAH!
Got back and made up three more batches…WITH ONLY 20 MINUTES to bring to trace! Can I get an AMEN!?!
Lavender ~ not out of the mold yet.
Mayan Gold with rhassoul clay…this is a guy’s soap…that the ladies will love, Love. LOVE! 🙂 I’d have a picture, but it turned out blurry and I didn’t want to go down to the basement to take another.
Black Raspberry with pacific sea salt and ultra marine.
Just to let you know…an Amazon box makes a great soap slab mold! 🙂
Still want to make one more batch…more for myself than anything. I love essential fir with some autumn woods and some green French clay
& sea salt thrown in.
I’ll pretend my salt and fir smell came from here…The Presidio! 🙂
For Today ~ 19 September 2010 ~ A Simple Woman’s Daybook
FOR TODAY … 19 September 2010
Outside My Window…It’s 10:00 pm at night…dark. I see my neighbor’s kitchen light on.
I am thinking… IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME that the team backed Barry Zito up with some runs! Goodness sakes! The poor guy hasn’t won a game since mid-July! Awesome game! ~~~~ The batch of Oatmeal Milk & Honey cold processed soap sure took a long time to trace! Holy Smokes…almost an hour! And I still didn’t get a 100% trace before my arm gave out. Cross your fingers! ~~~~ I can’t believe that my Bills LOST AGAIN! ACK! Sorta funny…my baseball team is the San Francisco Giants…my football team is the Buffalo Bills…and my hockey team is the Detroit Red Wings. ~~~~ Don’t ask…it beats me!
I am thankful for… that I have a day off on Monday…even if it’s a Furlough day and I won’t get paid for it.
From the kitchen… Pizza….and soap. 🙂 One batch of soap down…three more to go.
I am wearing… Shorts, my painting/soap making t-shirt that should probably be thrown away, barefoot, hair up and it’s a right frightful mess! Am trying to grow my bangs out and they’re at the shaggy dog stage.
I am creating… Soap. Oatmeal Milk and Honey is finished. I have Lavender, Autumn Fir, and something called Mayan Gold…all I can say is it would make a man yummy smelling.
I am going… check my soap calculations one more time to see if I need to increase the lye/water ratio in my recipe. I really don’t want to have to stir for an hour again.
I am reading… Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid…only a couple more pages to go. Am not really sure why they say Haven is based off of the book, so far I can only guess it’s the two old newspaper dudes that the book and tv show has in common.
I am hoping… that the Giants have a safe flight to Chicago and have a great series on the road. That my order from Brambleberry comes in soon so I can make soap with my niece. I decided to get a melt and pour soap for her first time…10 years old is just too young to help me make soap with lye.
I am hearing… the college girls move out in the front part of the duplex that I live in. Can I get an AMEN!?! Banging, slamming, yelling, squealing…hmmmmm…hopefully those are moving sounds I’m hearing. Sheesh…I’m starting to think that they’re thrashing the place!
Around the house… clean sheets on the bed, laundry done, floors vacuumed. TV on with Masterpiece Mystery…Inspector Lewis, Series III.
One of my favorite things… Still the ocean….will always be the ocean. Anyone know of any job openings in San Francisco?
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… Monday is a busy day of soap making…need to use my 50% off Michaels coupons, great for a quick pickup of soy wax.
Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…
Oh Say Can You See...
