Gifts from Mother Ocean on my weekend trip to Pacifica, California.
On our last day in the Bay Area we decided to head a few miles south of Pacifica, which is where we were staying over the weekend.
I saw on the map a lighthouse in Montara which has been turned into a HOSTEL. There was a sign that asked vistors to head to the office before exploring the grounds. Very nice lady in the front office area! Bombarded her with lots of questions about hostels, as I’ve never stayed at one. Am SO coming back and staying next year!
“Historic 1875 fog signal station and lighthouse overlooking the Pacific, just 25 miles south of San Francisco. Located on California State Park land, the hostel grounds include a secluded cove beach and gardens. Hike, bike, surf, kayak, or visit nearby Half Moon Bay, Pacifica, or Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. An on-site cafe serves espresso drinks daily. Free wi-fi, free parking, certified green business. Dorm beds from $23. Private rooms from $63. Additional $3/person for non-HI members.”
The hostel sits on absolutely beautiful grounds…luck had it that low-tide was nearing so we had some beach at the little cove to hike down to. Me thinks I need to become a hostel member…as there are quite a few of them in Northern California.
It snowed most of the day today…sun came out just enough to melt a lot of the very wet snow…it’s was pretty dang icy when I left work at 4 pm. I had the truck today and this is what I found when I hopped in. While waiting for the defroster to kick in, I took some pictures from the inside.
FOR TODAY … 23 November 2010
Outside My Window… I’m looking out the double doors of my office right down the hall to the main entrance and I see big ole fat wet snowflakes! I know they’re wet as I’m still drying off from them. 🙂
I am thinking… I wonder if I can just unplug my phone today? We’ve been moving into the new building here on campus and…well…it’s been one big cluster %#*&. 🙂 And they’re all bitching AT me. I’m not moving my office until I get back from Thanksgiving. My Buffalo Bills are 2-8 now! We won another game! 🙂 YEAH! That snow out there sure is pretty. Caltrans had better have I-80 plowed by Friday when I head out over the hill to Pacifica!
I am thankful for…My friends, family, kitties, excedrin tension (the big bottle), my camera, furnance working, Sierra Nevada IPA, and for the fact I’m still in a position to earn annual leave.
From the kitchen…I have absolutely no idea. Giant Burger’s falafels maybe?
I am wearing… Jeans, tennies, black turtleneck, my SF Giants hooded sweatshirt, pony tail frozen from cold…I really should dry my hair more in the winter time.
I am creating… I finished quilting my last quilt. Not creating anything at the moment.
I am going… to sit here an stare at the snow coming down…it’s quite hypnotic.
I am reading… Country Living magazine.
I am hoping…no one comes to work today.
I am hearing… hvac, liquid nitrogen tank, ice machine/
Around the house… probably two kitties piled on top of each other next to the heater vent.
One of my favorite things…
one of those that you have to click on the youtube link..
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… PACIFICA & SAN FRANCISCO HERE I COME!
Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…
I just pulled out my All Patched Up quilt from the dryer! I’m nice and toasty at the moment. 🙂 This is going to be my couch snuggler.
I bought the pattern from Allison of Cluck.Cluck.Sew….you can find her patterns here. It’s a fun quilt to make, even though I couldn’t match up blocks after cutting them into quarters and making them whole again! But that was my fault for changing feet in the middle of this quilt, I was off on the 1/4″ seam. 🙂 I like the raw edges around the circles…instant comfort look.
I used Cotton Blossoms by Bonnie & Camille for Moda. LOVE this line of fabric! I had two cakes and used almost both cakes for the top.
