For Today ~ 09 August 2011 ~ Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 09 August 2011.

Outside My Window… An empty bird seed sock and feeder, construction workers locking up their equipment and heading home for the day, and not a flipping cloud in the sky!

I am thinking… THREE MORE DAYS UNTIL WE GET TO MOVE! 🙂

I am thankful for… Friends…especially the ones that picked out the same colors as I did for the house. LOL!

From the kitchen… Slim pickings. This was a VERY LONG stretch between pay days. Three days doesn’t seem like a lot, but it is.

I am wearing… cropped pants, green peasant top, tennies.

I am creating… Still packing, but also hand stitching (English paper piecing) hexagons.

I am going… stop off at the grocery store to pick up a few things…some fresh veggies and fruit for dinner. Tomorrow is PAY DAY!

I am reading… Country Living magazine..

I am hoping… Beth will help me move…haven’t been able to get a hold of her though. 😦 Really don’t blame her…I hate moving too.

I am hearing… doors opening out in the hallway, other than that it’s been pretty quiet.

Around the house… boxes.

One of my favorite things… painting! It’s a good thing too, as we just bought all the paint for the inside of the house! By the way ~ I picked (with a little help from my friends! 🙂 ) the following! All Kelly Moore paints.

Kitchen ~ Aegean Accent (KM3211-1)
Laundry ~ Lemon Burst (KM3469-2)
Living Room & Master Bedroom ~ Mermaid Magic (KM3275-1)
Dining Room and hallway~ English Sycamore (OW249-1)

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… well…MOVE AND PAINT!

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

HEE! I just loved this tombstone up in Virginia City...had to take a picture.

Ok…I’m addicted to Hexagons

Hi…my name is Michelle, and I’m addicted to hexagons. Boy! It sure didn’t take long either! I took to hexies faster than to a Hostess Ding Dong! 🙂

I cut out 2.5″ squares of some 1930’s repo fabric that I hadn’t packed away yet, just to play around with. Wasn’t too sure I’d like making them. Not sure what I was going to make, either. Still don’t, actually. But I do know I’m going to be pulling out some of my batik scraps and play with them! I really like hand-stitching them.

The whites look a bit pink because they still have the paper hexagons in them.

Kitchen Paint Help Needed

So…I will be painting my new kitchen when we move in. Right now it’s a dark hunter green.

Here are some early pictures I took when we were looking at the house back in June.

Thought I’d throw in the bathroom…even though it’s not a great picture. But just to let you know…I’m not keeping the BLACK paint. Ick.

I was waffling between yellows, greens, and blues for the paint. Now I’ve narrowed it down to FOUR paint strips…but not sure which intensity of each color. Oh, and by the way, we’re going with Kelly Moore paint as we have a discount there.

The cabinets will stay cream white.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION????

Thursday’s Rambles ~ 04 August 2011

* T-Minus 8 Days for the START OF MOVING!

* I’ll probably maim or kill my husband before that. 🙂 Men…I swear.

* On a whim I found a 1″ Hexagon template and printed out about 10 sheets on heavier card stock paper (not sure why we had it at work here, I’ve been here almost 10 years and we’ve never used it). Watched the English Paper Piecing video on Connecting Threads…So THAT’S HOW THEY DO THAT!

I cut out some 2.5″ squares of my 1930’s reproduction fabrics to give it a whirl…I’m officially on the path of destruction now.

* Jen at Musings from Main Street had a photo contest and I was a winner! LOL! Two of us won $25 gift cards at Amazon. Spent a long time trying to figure out what I wanted. I’m saving my money for a Barnes & Noble 1st Edition Nook (sorry Amazon Kindle)…so I couldn’t buy any ebooks, couldn’t decide on any music or real book, then I stumbled onto fabric! They sell fabric on Amazon! I’ve been on a fabric diet since my husband lost his job. Guess what I got?! THREE YARDS OF FABRIC! From Fabric.com’s amazon storefront

I got one yard each of Amy Butler’s Midwest Modern Martini Green, Midwest Modern Garden Maze Green, and Daisy Chain Kaleidoscope Dots Olive.

Thank you Jen!

* I so want to make some pickles! But will have to wait until we move. I’ve packed my canning supplies. Waaaaaaaaaahhhh!

* Going to have to hook up with Beth so we can float the Truckee River. It’s been really hot (not has hot as the rest of the country…but hot enough for me).

* Do you all remember the MASH episode where Radar, Hawkeye, Trapper, and Margaret did their version of My Blue Heaven? With Henry conducting?

Well…while working on the Hexies last night…I had to get up and belt out the song like Margaret! WHEN WHIP-POOR-WILLS CAAAAAALLLL AND EV’NING IS NIGH! (Gotta get those dance moves in too!) Come on…you can DO IT! 🙂

* Then I cried while singing with John Denver ~ I’m Sorry. Then sobbed when Vince Gill & Ricky Skaggs (video with Alison Krauss, LOVE HER!) sang Go Rest High On That Mountain. Good grief. I turned off the music and switched it to Hong Kong Phooey on Boomerang. 🙂

* Another picture of one of my favorite valleys….Sierra Valley. Looking WSW between Chilcoot and Frenchman’s Lake. Haying time.

* To Dean Heller: WTF were you thinking you ARSEHOLE?! Just remember elections are coming up and I can’t wait to vote your arse out of office! Have a nice day! 🙂
