How I’m spending my “Staycation”….

Two quilt tops are quilted and the binding is sewn to the top ready for hand-stitching!

Another top is sandwiched and ready for quilting…just not 100% sure how I’m going to quilt it.

Almost to the point where I can start a new project!!!

Hexagon Dish Towels

Over at In Color Order’s blog I saw a very cool tutorial on embellishing dish/tea towels…and I needed a fast Christmas present!

Since I’ve already had a bunch of 1″ hexie card-stock cut out for my batik Grandma’s Flower Garden quilt, I used them…along with a Lauren & Jessi Jung Flora charm pack cut into quarters.

They’ll be perfect with a jar of my home-made jam!

For Today ~ 15 December 2011 ~ A Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 15 December 2011.

Outside My Window… cloudy with a hint of snow (as in spitting itty-bitty frozen particles), lots of traffic.

I am thinking… lots of thoughts that just keep bouncing into each other and not making sense at all. Could be the allergy/cold meds. Or not. 🙂

I am thankful for… my friends.

From the kitchen… It’s cleaned! Was very chaotic last night while filling everyone’s gift bags full of all the baked goodies I made ~ peanut brittle, three types of fudge, peppermint biscotti, ginger cookies, and russian tea cookies. Tonight?! Going out! Using one our 2 for 1 coupons.

I am wearing… jeans, tennis shoes, a forest green mock turtleneck.

I am creating… nothing at the moment.

I am going… have lunch with the “Dirty Dozen” today…it’s our holiday brunch where we cook for past members. I made a Cranberry Relish salad with fresh cranberries, oranges, apples, pineapple, and raspberry jello.

I am reading… Mitch Albom’s Have A Little Faith.

I am hoping… that Reva heals super fast after her surgery on Tuesday! Sending love and hugs.

I am hearing… a few grads getting ready for their last final of the semester.

Around the house… cleaned. Simple Christmas this year…a little tree full of antique ornaments and that’s it.

One of my favorite things… watching people smile when biting into my baked goods.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… take it easy. Maybe go see Sherlock Holmes!

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

Lucy…last night I couldn’t find her! Here is where I finally found her ~ in my bookcase full of quilting books.

From Hawaii…with Love

I got a wonderful surprise gift from my sister, who was on vacation in Hawaii with her family the last two weeks.

2 yards of a batik fabric and 4 yards of a lovely oriental fabric with two quilt patterns by Pacific Rim Quilt Company!

Herd of Turtles by Nancy Lee Chong & Janice Lee Baehr, a Two Fabric Appliqué quilt pattern that will be 24″x36″.

Hawaiian Wall Quilt applique quilt pattern, Delicate Beauty ~ Hibiscus, 44″x68″.

Old Christmas ornaments and Pixlr-o-Matic Photo Editing

Playing again with the Pixlr-o-Matic photo editing app…sorry, just can’t stop.

This angel bell is my very first Christmas ornament, 45 years ago, at five months of age.

The next two are old ornaments I’ve collected…one is glass and the other is one of 12 wooden candles covered in colored tin sleeves.

Gone to the Birds…

Red-Tail and Kestrel taken at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno…Scrub Jays and Robin at my house (taken through a dirty window…sorry).

And…hopefully this pretty guy is one of the Ranger’s or neighbor’s kitty…he’s pretty well fed for a stray (taken at the park).

For Today ~ 05 December 2011 ~ Simple Woman’s Day Book

FOR TODAY … 05 December 2011.

Outside My Window… Blue sky, breeze, lots of traffic.

I am thinking… It’s cold! I need to take a day off to bake the rest of my gifts. I wish my sister would post more pictures of Hawaii! For goodness sakes…I could use some warm beach pictures right now.

I am thankful for… the heater under my desk. 🙂 And for while I have some “wants”…my NEEDS are pretty much taken care of…and I know the difference between the two.

From the kitchen… I’m not sure. I baked an acorn squash and pork chops last night, but I don’t know what I’ll make for tonight. I have two batches of fudge to cut up and store away until I send out my packages.

I am wearing… jeans, tennis shoes, a black mock turtleneck.

I am creating… candy and cookies.

I am going… water my plants…looking around and some are drooping. Sorry guys!

I am reading… Mitch Albom’s Have A Little Faith.

I am hoping… that I can sell the rest of my jams, jellies, and candles here at work…can use a little spending money.

I am hearing… just the traffic outside. Pretty quiet here right now.

Around the house… I put some Christmas lights out around the front door and enclosed side porch…a few on the fence too. Froze my fingers off too! It was 19F that morning!

One of my favorite things… birds, and taking pictures of them.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… bake. Gingersnaps, Russian Tea cookies, Peppermint biscotti, more fudge and one more batch of peanut brittle.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

American Kestrels from yesterday’s walk around Rancho San Rafael park.

My Christmas Tree ~ playing with Panasonic FZ150 settings and Photo Editing

I put my wee 4′ fake Christmas tree up last night (next year it’ll be a USFS cutting permit for a fir!)…and decided to play around with my new Panasonic Lumix FZ150’s settings.

The following photos were taken with the lights in the living room turned off and the Christmas tree’s lights on…no camera flash.
