I thought I’d had better take the camera with me on my walk around Rancho San Rafael yesterday, before our Winter Weather Storm Watch would hit us (today). I wanted to get some “color” pics before the winds knocked off all the leaves. Seems I wasn’t the only one with that idea…lots of folks roaming around with cameras. 🙂
Ferrari Farm’s pumpkin patch, corn maze, big ole pumpkin bounce house, corn stalks, and hay rides are in full-swing now! I love how they set it up this year…lots more parking and a bit more compact. They’re open on Mon-Thurs from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm; Fri-Sat from 9:30 am to 10 pm; and Sunday from 9:30 to 6 pm. 4701 Mill Street, between Rock and McCarran.
Big sigh of relief…Autumn weather is finally making an appearance here in Reno. I’m glad the summer heat is waning.
I even greeted the cooler weather with making a pan of lasagna yesterday! I’ve been wanting to try a sauce recipe that I saw on Jennifer’s blog THE MUDDY KITCHEN…Make Sauce like a Sicilian. Holy Moly…was that a simple yet tasty sauce! I followed the directions to the t…except I added pine nuts to the garlic and olive oil stage.
I had enough for two pans of lasagna (froze one for another dinner)…that yummy sauce with Italian turkey sausage, mushrooms, zucchini, eggplant, crookneck squash, fresh spinach, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, and shaved parmesan.
A while ago I bought a book off of Amazon ~ Making Wire & Bead Jewelry: Artful Wirework Techniques by Janice Berkebile and Tracy Stanley. All I can say is WOW! I’ve never seen a how-to book with so many awesome photographs to help you along.
I tried a pair of copper paddle drop earrings for my first project.
I made ear wires in sterling silver, like the copper ones, for April’s earrings…they are off in the mail to her.
Friday was the return trip of Union Pacific’s steam engine #844…she’s on her way back to Cheyenne for maintenance before heading to Texas to show off.
Saturday we drove down to Carson City and visited the Greenhouse Project at Carson City High School. What a cool place! And great project! We toured the greenhouse, raised beds and a hoop house that a student was working on for his senior project. We watched as the manager showed how to propagate herbs from cuttings…took some oregano and sage home with us.
We found an great bamboo chair (rocks and swivels) for our balcony at the SPCA thrift store in town for $15…on the lookout for another one.
FOR TODAY … 01 October 2012!!!! It’s OCTOBER! YAY!
Outside My Window… Sun. Going to be another HOT day. SOB! It’s supposed to be in the 70’s NOT THE 90’s! Ok…enough of the rant. Tree’s are changing colors as are the fire bushes. There’s a few wee sunflowers that the birds planted.
I am thinking… Thoughts are scattered today…me thinks the full moon had people weirded out where I live…they kept me up both Saturday and Sunday nights. Headache didn’t help either.
I am thankful for… For allergy meds, since the rabbit brush is blooming for what seems like the 50th time this year.
From the kitchen… Maybe pizza, maybe grilled ham and cheese…not really sure.
I am wearing… Tan cropped pants and a olive green shirt, tennis shoes and my hair down.
I am creating… I took a break from leather/bead wrap bracelets to make my friend, April, her earrings. Sterling silver hammered wire with pearls, silver and purple beads. I don’t like the french wires I put on them so will go look for posts or make them myself.
I am going… try to find out if and when the UP #844 will be coming back east so I can get pictures of her in the canyon west of Reno.
I am reading… Still not finished with The Hobbit. Been flipping through a few different magazines too.
I am hoping… That once this weekend rolls around with the cooler weather that it will STAY.
I am hearing… Cars on McCarran and Enterprise, people walking in the hallway, me typing.
Around the house… is clean! I did a lot of housework yesterday.
One of my favorite things… Pumpkins. Football. Baseball’s scramble to get into the playoffs. My Giants have no worries…so GO Oakland and Detroit!
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… Look for something to wrap my soaps up in…I may just use parchment paper and string.
Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…
