A Rambling Tuesday ~ 27 May 2014

Sort of a ramble today ~ Lots of pictures.

I received my craft swap today! A beautiful scarf hand-spun & dyed & knitted by a graduate student in my department. It’s soooo soft! Did I say it was BEAUTIFUL? 🙂 Will be getting out my Scottish Thistle pins! In exchange for the scarf, I made the lap quilt in the previous post.

We stopped by Boca (near the train tracks and Truckee River) on the way home from spending the day up near Hobart Mills.

It’s been warming up here in Reno/Sparks…and being upstairs just makes it hotter. This was Leo yesterday (with windows open and fan on) while I was piecing mini quilts.

Using Jeni Baker’s Nordika I made up a bunch of 1.25″ (finished size) HST’s…making a few mini quilts…and I do mean MINI…will be approximately 8″. The three on the left are finished, still working on the right two. Then will need to quilt and bind.

I finished the quilt for a graduate student in my department…she spins and dyes her own yarn and knits beautiful things, so we’re exchanging our crafts.

Here’s the quilt from beginning to end.

I pin my quilts…not a big fan of spray basting only because I get more on me than the quilt.

Funny Fish Tale ~ Pyramid Lake

North Wino Beach, Pyramid Lake.

North Wino Beach, Pyramid Lake.

My husband’s friend, Pedro, will soon be moving to Arizona and Pedro still hasn’t gone fishing out at Pyramid Lake…so they loaded up the truck yesterday and went.

I texted my friend, Reva, who has fished out there, and she suggested Wino Beach since they don’t have ladders or a boat. The two of them used mine and Lee’s poles, which have been sitting in the back of the truck for at least two years without any use (yes, I know…shameful). IE: the line was probably pretty brittle.

Lee’s first cast out was beautiful, I was told, and my nice, pretty lure made an awesome arc…and never came back.

I was told it was an offering to the Pyramid Lake Fish Gods.

I’m not buying it.

After about 15 minutes of laughing so hard that my face hurt, I told him he’s buying me a new lure.

For Today ~ 12 May 2014 ~ Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 12 May 2014

Outside My Window… Blue Blue Blue sky…breezy. Big piles of dirt the tonka toys keep moving around. They sure make a lot of money for just pushing piles of dirt from one end to the other. A Stellar Jay and Scrub Jay being chased by a dove…too funny.

I am thinking… nothing too deep. :p

I am thankful for… Long-time friends.

From the kitchen… Yesterday was a roasted chicken with a kale/broccoli salad and garlic bread. Tonight (after feeding him three meals) my husband’s friend is coming over and making his Puerto Rican chicken and rice & beans dish. He’s from PR and I love Caribbean food.

I am wearing… Tennis shoes, jeans, pretty blue print blouse.

I am creating… A lap quilt for a graduate student who is making me a scarf (she spins and dyes her own yarn). Here’s what I have up on the design wall so far:

I am going… to find some chocolate…there has to be some in this office somewhere.

I am reading… I started reading one of the free Nook books I downloaded…Child of the Ghosts by Jonathan Moeller. Not bad for a freebie.

I am hoping… My husband gets that part-time job that he was told about by one of his friends. Part-time is better than nothing, which is what he has now.

I am hearing… Someone brewing their coffee down the hall. Other than that, it’s pretty quiet here at work.

Around the house… Probably kitties napping in sunbeams…not home, so I’m taking a guess.

One of my favorite things… Flowers.

A Few Plans for the Rest of the Week…. Finish the batik geese quilt. Buy tickets for Godzilla! I get to see it twice! Regular one with my husband and friend (who don’t like 3D)…then how I really want to see it, 3D ATMOS with my sister and nephew.

Here is a few pictures thought I’d share with you…

Spent about 3 hours cleaning 25+ years of grime off the bricks of this fireplace at a friends “new” bar (bar is 60+ years old). So much more work to be done.

Coming Home to Mill House Inn ~ A Quilt

I finished a quilt last night that I thought I’d share.

Back in March a few friends and I had a craft day, while they beaded I worked on a small quilt. I brought with me a charm pack of Mill House Inn by Fig Tree Co. and Camille Roskelley’s book Simplify, Quilts for the Modern Home. I chose the Coming Home pattern…real sweet and simple.

One of those friends wanted to buy the quilt, so I dug out yardage of Mill House Inn that I had bought eons ago…added a border and finished it up. It’s washed, picked up, and on her way to her new home.

Luckily I have another charm pack and lots of yardage to make myself one.
