For Today ~ 6 January 2014 ~ HAPPY NEW YEAR! Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 6 January 2014

Outside My Window… High clouds blanketing a blue sky. Snow covering the rocks outside still (no direct sunlight to melt the snow that fell what seems like eons ago).

I am thinking… Wow…it’s really been since August 2013 since my last post?! I’ve been uninspired lately, sorta in a funk. I hate where I live. It’s not conducive to quilting nor baking/cooking, which I love to do. Even my photography hasn’t given me much joy. So, I’m going to pull myself up by my bootstraps and move forward! 🙂 I’m also thinking whoever is on the end of 971-208-9936 is VERY lucky we can’t grab throats through the telephone lines, because I would if I could…9 phone calls since 8:18 am PST is driving me crazy. Stupid spam callers.

I am thankful for… the space heater under my work desk. My friend April, my sister Colleen. My new town home come January 24th (yes, you heard right. ANOTHER move)

From the kitchen… Not much since most of it is packed up. Going out to eat tonight…have an Amazon Local deal I bought.

I am wearing… Tennis shoes, jeans, long-sleeved grey blouse.

I am creating… Nothing! All of my fabric is packed. Except for these lovely Pat Bravo 1/2 yards I bought from Hawthorne Threads with a gift certificate! Mostly from Carnaby Street and Summerlove with a few thrown in from Bazaar Style, Rapture, Rhapsodia and Poetica. 🙂 Pat’s fabrics make me happy.

I am going… to keep searching Craig’s List for a couch and washer/dryer for the new town home. I found a couch for $200 (looks brand new), but for some stupid reason my husband filled up the back of the pickup truck with stuff from the garage already. IE: no way to get said couch if I decide on buying it. I should unload the truck when I get home tonight.

I am reading… I also packed all my books. But I do have my nook I should pull out.

I am hoping… That if we get any snow and rain it comes fast and not on January 24th!

I am hearing… a postdoc down the hall going over research with his PI.

Around the house… boxes. Cats are getting squirrely. Lucy is making sure we won’t forget to move her.

For Today ~ 14 October 2011 ~ A Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 14 October 2011.

Outside My Window… Clear blue sky, not a cloud in the sky! People driving to work. Burning bushes turning bright red.

I am thinking… REALLY?! 85F DEGREES?! It’s October 14th! Come on Mom Nature! Drop the temps 15-20 degrees please!

I am thankful for… good friends.

From the kitchen… Hoping it will stay clean! 🙂 I want to use one of our 2-for-1 coupons tonight.

I am wearing… jeans, tennis shoes, a brown short-sleeved blouse.

I am creating… started quilting on the Ocean quilt top; still working on the batik grandma flower garden; made up 4 more 1/2 pint soy candles; made grape juice from the grapes my sister gave me that she picked…soon to be jelly.

I am going… to have lunch with Melinda before she heads on up to Washington state for good.

I am reading… a 99 cent book on my Nook ~ A Job From Hell (Ancient Legends) by Jayde Scott.

I am hoping… my friend April and her husband have a nice vacation. Be safe and have fun.

I am hearing… construction workers, planes, cars.

Around the house… a new October Glory Maple tree! Plus 80-100 newly planted daffidols and tulips in the front yard.

One of my favorite things… Planting for the future! I can’t wait until spring to see what the front yard will look like! Also can’t wait to see the maple change colors! FALL…if it would ever get here. Summer, winter, summer…come on! Give me some COLOR and cooler temps already!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… weed the 3×3 area where there’s a rose bush under the kitchen window, prune it, and then plant some strawberry plants that my sister’s boss gave me. Whack down a tea rose bush that’s as tall as the 6′ fence…it’s a bit unwieldy. Get some quilting in. Visit some pumpkin patches around town.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

Our new October Glory Maple (15 gallon size) that the Garden Shop delivered and planted; and some mums growing in our yard.

Monday’s Rambles ~ 10 October 2011

Saturday we went up to Susanville, Ca to the Rails to Trails Festival ~ hand car races, chili cook-off, crafts.

Then drove to where my husband grew up, Litchfield…they have an awesome wildlife refuge up there and we thought we’d look for some date nails from the old railroad tracks too.

But this is what we found of the tracks that his dad used to ride ~

They pulled the tracks up! No more hunting for date nails…no more walking the tracks…why’d the pull the tracks?! Sell them for scrap? Big sigh.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday we were busy with yard work ~ we yanked out what was left of two bush/trees from the side of the house along the driveway.
The previous owners put down at least 6″ of rock in there! Got the wheelbarrow out and shoveled rock to the front and side of the house…would rather have bark/mulch, but the rocks are there and free.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Planted a Hypericum inodorum Mystical Red Star where three diseased dying elm trees where cut down…once the stumps are ground down I’ll plant more in that area.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had to replant some iris and mums to make room for the October Glory Maple tree coming on Thursday! Soon we’ll have the prettiest tree on the street! 🙂
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also yesterday, I made 8 half-pint jars of Pepper Jelly using the jalapeño and serrano peppers my sister gave me from her garden.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Made up 12 soy candles for a craft fair coming up in November…still have another 8 or 12 to make, but ran out of jars (made lots of jelly this summer).
Kitchen Paint Help Needed
So…I will be painting my new kitchen when we move in. Right now it’s a dark hunter green.
Here are some early pictures I took when we were looking at the house back in June.
Thought I’d throw in the bathroom…even though it’s not a great picture. But just to let you know…I’m not keeping the BLACK paint. Ick.
I was waffling between yellows, greens, and blues for the paint. Now I’ve narrowed it down to FOUR paint strips…but not sure which intensity of each color. Oh, and by the way, we’re going with Kelly Moore paint as we have a discount there.
The cabinets will stay cream white.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION????
