Panorama Sugar Easter Eggs ~ Ready for Easter & Spring!

My family makes these eggs every once in a while…mom started making them WAY BACK to help pay for family vacations. The last time we made the sugar eggs was back in 2008.

THEY’RE BACK!

Mom and I made them up over the past week or so. The shells are made of sugar, cream of tartar, and water….molded, scooped, and flipped to dry. The flowers and critters are made from royal frosting. There is NO PLASTIC in these, folks! Just the wrapping we used. 🙂

The larger of the two is almost 5″ in length, we sell those for $15. The smaller of the two is 3″ and they sell for $8.

Roses, wee flowers, daisies, violets, and pansies. Bunnies, swans, and chicks are inside. Some with crosses.

These guys last a long time if kept properly…ie: in a dry place and if you don’t eat them! 🙂 Which by the way, they are totally edible, but come on! Don’t eat them! They’re too pretty!

And BOYS LOVE THESE just as much as girls, folks!

Easter 2008 Weekend

We had a beautiful weekend here in Northern Nevada!  70 degrees and sunny on Easter Sunday ~ Who’d thunk it!?

Spent some time at Rancho San Rafael Park on Saturday throwing horse shoes (miserably I might add…more so than usual for me!), walking , taking pictures, and winning a game of cribbage.

I made that Christmas Ham of Paula Deen’s for Easter…love the orange marmalade & Dijon Mustard glaze…could have gone without the crust.  Next time just the glaze.  Very tasty ham.  The Mushroom & Asparagus salad that was in Raley’s Something Extra was VERY GOOD!

After church I made a mad dash to mom’s house to see the kiddo’s and my BIL’s sister’s daughter…Brooke is a cutie.

Some pictures from the weekend ~ First two from my front yard; rest from Rancho San Rafael park near UNR.

First Weekend in March 2008

And I didn’t do much! 🙂

March came in with lots of wind and a cold air mass…bloody hell, I getting tired of the wind.

So after a warm breakfast we headed out to the Elks Club rummage sale at the south end of town.   I love going to their sales ~ there’s this wee old lady who gives you the best deals!  Two new t-shirts, copper mold, books, coffee cup, radio, wall hanging and some more books for $5.

The Physicians Wives had their rummage sale on Saturday too…later in the afternoon I went ~ paid my $2 to get pushed, shoved, run over by baby carriages, and assaulted by rude women, men and children alike.  Never will I set foot in their operation again.

I got in my car and headed south on Wells to the Four Seasons House…a local antique and gift shop at 628 S. Wells Avenue, Reno 89502…Where Every Day is a Holiday!  I love that place, nice and quiet with lots of vintage and unique items to browse through. Bought 2 more green handled kitchen utensils for my kitchen display, a bottle opener for my husband, and a 1920’s postcard for myself to use someday in an art project.

That evening I started making Feather Tree Ornaments from rummikubs.  I picked up a cd a long time ago with vintage postcards on it…printed out Easter, St. Patrick’s Day and 4th of July artwork then started making my ornaments.  I have a feather tree at work that I decorate for each holiday.  It has both Easter and St. Patricks on it this month.    I followed Sue’s (Perpetualplum) altered domino tutorial and tweaked to fit what I had on hand.

Sunday was much cooler than Saturday, had lots of sunshine…and that bloody cold wind. Hit the El Rancho Swap Meet in Sparks. I only found an old wooden fishing bobber to add to my collection while my husband came home with another Dale Earnhardt collectible and a ratchet. LOL! He loves finding tools…even if it meant he had to buy from the guy who beats him to the tools at local yard sales.

And now for something completely different ~

Plate of my homemade whole wheat tortillas ~ made pork tacos last night (Boston butt roast stewed all day long and then pulled and put into ziplocks for pesole, tacos, and bbq sandwiches).

(deleted a bunch of pics…sorry)

Last but not least ~ my Maxie wanting to know when I was going to finish crafting and turn out the lights!

Taking the Plunge!

Well ~ am taking the plunge into the blogwaters…wish me luck!

I’m not sure why I started an online journal…maybe because all my friends have one.  I usually post all my pictures up on webshots ~I’m nv_michelle, by the way ~ but thought I like to be able to describe more about them and what was going on at the time.

Today started out bright and early at Dr. Jane’s office…she had to poke me with lots of little needles as I killed my hand over the weekend making Panoramic Sugar Easter Eggs.  She is “putting a band-aid” on me until I suck it up and go get my carpal tunnel fixed via surgery.  Just had my gall bladder taken out in October and I really don’t want to see the inside of a hospital for a long time.

As I said above, the reason for the doctor’s visit was due to the opening of the Sugar Egg Factory last Friday.  I took the day off and headed to my Mom’s house to make sugar eggs.  It’s been 4 years since I’ve made them last ~ it has been exactly 4 years since I adopted Leo-Monster, my bengal kitty.  🙂  Dr. Destructo.  (I’ll post pictures of the critters later).

Friday we made shells for 31 large eggs and 13 small eggs.  Along with flowers, swans, bunnies, chicks, suns, crosses, and fences.  Spent the whole day up to my elbows in sugar and merengue powder!  Sticky, Sticky, Sticky!

Sugar Egg Shells and Flowers drying

Saturday was putting all the critters inside and putting the tops on ~ left early (12:30 pm) as it started to snow big ole wet snowflakes.  Big sigh.  So tired of it snowing down in the valley…it needs to stay up in the mountains for the skiers and our water reservoirs, dang it!

Sunday morning I skipped church and went back to mom’s house to finish up the eggs.

Soooo…what do you think?  Pretty, eh?!   Selling them for $15/large and $7/small ~ check out my Sleepy Cat Hollow etsy site.
