For Today ~ 2 June 2014 ~ A Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 02 June 2014

Outside My Window… Not a cloud in the sky…it’s going to get hot today! Still have tonka trucks out there moving dirt from one pile to the next.

I am thinking… I’m starving. One little granola bar didn’t cut it for breakfast.

I am thankful for… The left-over bbq’d hotdogs I brought to work for lunch.

From the kitchen… I’m thinking a stir fry tonight…I have some beef and veggies to use, throw in some pan-fried noodles.

I am wearing… Tennis shoes, jeans, bright primary purple cotton shirt.

I am creating… I have a few things going on at the moment.

Some pretty fabrics I pulled from my stash.

I am going… to go heat up my lunch. After work, stop by Lowes to pick up some sand paper and some balsa wood.

I am reading… Nothing at the moment.

I am hoping… for a quick and uneventful week.

I am hearing… Battery backups beeping as the power keeps going off and on.

Around the house… Clean dishes that need to be put away.

One of my favorite things… Birdies!

A Few Plans for the Rest of the Week… Work on the wee yardstick sewing boxes.

Here is a few pictures thought I’d share with you… Lots of squirrels at the Sparks Marina where I was parked.

Quilting UFO’s becoming not-so-ufoie

I have a “few” quilt tops that I’ve decided I despartely need to get quilted and out of the house…well, a few out of the house. BECAUSE I HAVE SO MANY PRETTY FABRICS WAITING TO BECOME QUILT TOPS…and then start the whole thing all-over again. 🙂

*** Ocean Quilt Top ~ wow…I just saw the date when I finished THIS top! August 2010! Good Grief. Well! It’s quilted and the binding is sewn on and ready to be hand-stitched to the backside.

*** Spring Window Quilt :::hanging head in shame::: THIS quilt top was finished in April 2010. I’ve got it sandwiched and have started in on the quilting.

*** psiquilt quilt along Four Patch ~ I finished THIS top in July. It’s next in line after Spring Window to be sandwiched and quilted.

*** In a Jiffy Ric-Rac Quilt ~ Next in line is THIS quilt top that I used Camille Roskelley’s Ric-Rac pattern. I finished the top in June of this year. Will back it with the lime green Kona cotton.

Update on my Work-In-Progress (sorry about the fuzzy picture) ~ Batik Grandma’s Flower Garden.

And soon to be flowers:

Three down and one to go! I got Terrain pretty dang cheap on Etsy. Hope Valley from Hawthorne Threads. And RUBY came home with me yesterday afternoon! Hee! My LQS, Windy Moon Quilts, has a monthly ‘poker hand’…you turn in your cards for a chance to win a $50 store credit. I WON I WON I WON! With my $15 that I had from my fabric card along with the $50 win, I got Ruby!

To take their place on my Fabric Wish List is the lovely GALLERY FIORIby Karen Tusinski.

A quilt for Evan Henry

We have a new baby in my extended family…Evan Henry (my brother-in-law’s sister’s baby boy).

I finished the half square triangle quilt top…added two batik borders, one (the biggest) is a beauty…Paradise Barbados and the smaller one (also the binding) Tonga royal iron scrollwork. It’s backed by a pretty fuzzy flannel ~ Ice Garden by Maywood Studios.

It’s 44″x52″…so it’ll last him a very long time.

(changing photos! Mom came back with it all washed…outside shot much better)

I finished my Ocean Quilt Top – HST Quilt

I took a half day off work yesterday. Had to be home for a repairman to fix a cracked window, and after he left…I grabbed my quilt top and headed over to WINDY MOON to find some fabric for the borders. The ladies there are always willing to help find the perfect fabric. 🙂

Then they asked if I was going to have one of the longarm quilters there quilt it for me…told them I don’t have that type of money. BUT! I do have a Janome 1600P-DB that my inlaws gave me for Christmas that I have not used yet. So I will bring it in for Donna to go over with me the basics of FMQ.

They were getting busy in the shop, so I headed on home to my wee sewing space and started in on finishing my quilt. We moved to a smaller house/duplex in July, so I do not have a dedicated sewing room anymore. I have my sewing machine set up in the corner of our guest room; my fabric hutch is also in there; I put nails up on the closet to hook the design wall up; ironing board goes down and back up…but then I have to go down the hall, through the kitchen, down the stairs into the basement to my cutting table! Let me tell you…I get my excerise in when making a quilt. Up and Down, Up and Down…Up and half way Down, back Up (forgot the rotary!), back down.

My first quilt I ever made is on the bed…the last quilt I’m making on the wall. 🙂

Next ~ will have to figure out what I want to do for the backing. Just one fabric or mix of all? Not sure yet.
