Finished ‘All Patched Up’ Quilt ~ Moda Cotton Blossoms & Cluck.Cluck.Sew.

I just pulled out my All Patched Up quilt from the dryer! I’m nice and toasty at the moment. 🙂 This is going to be my couch snuggler.

I bought the pattern from Allison of Cluck.Cluck.Sew….you can find her patterns here. It’s a fun quilt to make, even though I couldn’t match up blocks after cutting them into quarters and making them whole again! But that was my fault for changing feet in the middle of this quilt, I was off on the 1/4″ seam. 🙂 I like the raw edges around the circles…instant comfort look.

I used Cotton Blossoms by Bonnie & Camille for Moda. LOVE this line of fabric! I had two cakes and used almost both cakes for the top.

Tuesday’s Rambles ~ 26 October 2010

First Baseball! 🙂

~ Tomorrow the World Series starts! GO GIANTS!!!!  Good Luck guys!

~ Still shaking my head about hearing Tim McCarver call Jeremy ‘AFLAC’ instead of Affeldt. Did he just say Aflac?! He’s a strange man.

~ Miss you Kruk & Kuip! More than you’ll ever know!

~ CSN Bay Area Sports Giants VideosI swear the best postgame interview was with Sergio Romo. He’s off on the right hand side (about 5 rows down)…between Freddy and Brian. That is one excited guy…haven’t seen a guy giggle like a little kid in quite a while. (10.23: NLCS Game 6 Postgame – Sergio Romo)

~ Started cutting out a new quilt.

Using Allison’s of Cluck.Cluck.Sew. All Patched Up pattern. I pulled out two Layered Cakes that I’ve had in my stash ~ Cotton Blossoms fabric by Bonnie & Camille for Moda.

~ I had to scrape the frost off of my car windows this morning! WOO HOO!

~ Bruce Willis still has it. John Malkovich is just plain crazy. Helen Mirren lovely, and badass, as always. Saw Red over the weekend. Loved it.

Some autumn leaves above the Truckee River.

This is one of my favorite condo buildings in downtown Reno…it’s right on the Truckee River across from Wingfield Park.

~ Sunday it rained and rained and rained…mostly horizontally, as the winds were very strong.

~ Picked up a few more Michael Perry books after reading Coop…started reading Population: 485 – Meeting your Neighbors One Siren at a Time. Also have Truck: A Love Story, Off Main Street: Barnstormers, Prophets & Gatemouth’s Gator, and Why They Killed Big Boy.

Finished Quilt Top ~ Eden by Lila Tueller

While flipping through the Connecting Threads catalog I saw a quilt that I thought looked easy enough to make. I didn’t want to buy the kit with the fabric that they supplied, so I just winged it…the pattern is by Lorrie Franz, I think it’s called Grandma’s Inspiration.

I pulled out the two charm packs of Eden that I had…we’ve been under a winter storm since Tuesday and I WANTED SPRING, damnitalltohell! Lila Tueller’s Eden fabric line is definitely SPRING! Didn’t have enough charms to finish the quilt top AND for part of the back, so I went to Windy Moon, one of my local quilt shops…and they were sold out (I received a finger lashing from Cindy, “You should know better by now! You NEVER buy enough!”) Big Sigh. Bought a bunch of 1/4 yards of the fabric line, I can always use the rest in another quilt.

Since I didn’t have the pattern I was slightly off on measurement of the inner white border, which threw the two vertical outer borders off a tad.

Here is the finished quilt top…I’m calling it A WINDOW INTO SPRING…as that was what I was happily thinking of while sewing this top! It’s approximately 46″x60″ in size.

Quilt Give Away at Lila Tueller Designs

While googling for Lila Tueller’s Woodland Bloom fabric line (my LQS does not have a lot of it…and I LOVE IT!) I found this!

Lila is holding a give-away at her blog site LILA TUELLER DESIGNS…grand prize is a quilt she made with her new line of fabric called EDEN from Moda Fabrics.

The winner will receive this grand prize quilt with a retail value of about $200+!!!
There will also be second and third prizes of pattern 3 packs.

Weekend Rambles…

Just some rambles of things I did and saw over the long holiday weekend (that included a state furlough day).

First off…even though I have yet to organize my sewing room, I went to Windy Moon Quilts to pet some fabric and left with some fat quarters and a jelly roll in Moda’s Au*then*tic fabric line designed by Sweetwater. It’s really cute. I NEED to go back and get more or the newsprint fat quarters. 🙂

Lookie who I spotted in my back yard! A Rufus-sided Towhee! I just love them…so far in my new yard I’ve had quail, doves, sparrows, finches, robins, towhees, mockingbird, and juncos.

I have a new edition to my Irish Belleek collection…a harp! It has the Third Green (or Sixth) Mark and dates from 1965-1981. So pretty!

Yesterday’s sunrise from my kitchen window…

Lucy and Leo snuggling down.

Americana Wall Hanging Quilt

I was in the first Simple Woman Summer Swap and found out my partner would be decorating in Americana for a few rooms when she moves into her new home. So I decided to make her a wall hanging quilt. After looking through a few of my quilting books I settled on adapting a pattern from three that I saw.

I’m a little intimidated of piecing stars…not the Ohio Star nor the Friendship Stars, those I have can make with no problems whatsoever…but the other ones like LeMoyne Star!

But after being introduced to this book ~ STARS BY MAGIC ~ Nancy Johnson-Srebro ~ New Super-Easy Technique! Diamond-Free Stars from Squares and Rectangles! Perfect Points and No Y-Seams! ~ I’m not scared anymore! 🙂

I used Thimbleberries and Moda fabrics for the quilt. I tried my hand at free motion machine quilting on my Janome…I need lots of practice still. I liked doing the stars…but I’m not that great at curly-curves! I did it by hand…not with a contraption that you add onto your machine, which may make it a lot easier. Who knows. I still need help with my binding…one of these days I’ll get that down pat too.
