Finished my Sparkle Punch Quilt Along ~ Oh, Fransson!

I joined in on Elizabeth’s (of Oh, Fransson!) quilt along and FINALLY finished a baby sized quilt. It was going to be bigger, but a few other quilts got in the way, and one of them is a paying customer! YEA!

I used reproduction 1930’s fabrics. The longest part was making the wonky part of the stars…the top pieced right fast! Will give it another try later with different fabrics. 🙂

Sparkle Punch Quilt-Along ~ Oh, Fransson!

I’m joining in on Elizabeth’s (Oh, Fransson!) Sparkle Punch Quilt-along.

Posts will appear over a 5 week period without a specific timeline on completion…just a tutorial on how to make the quilt.

This is Elizabeth’s quilt up on her design wall…(posted on her blog 14 Dec 11: Sparkle Punch Quilt Piecing)

She had ask what material we were going to use…and I was thinking Camille Roskelley’s RUBY or Kate Spain’s TERRAIN. But was going through my stash last night and pulled out these instead.

How I spent my May furlough day…

Had a furlough day yesterday…didn’t tell my husband (he’d have things lined up for me to do if I did tell him), and since he doesn’t leave for work until 8:30 a.m., I took myself and my laptop over to my sister’s house. Visited the kiddos while they were getting ready for school. IM’d my friend April while she was at work. 8:30 a.m. went home. 🙂

Fiddled around with the computer’s modem for about an hour…that included a very unproductive call with AT&T’s internet tech help, finally I said listen…maybe I’m just not asking the right questions, but I can’t understand you and you are not understanding me so I’m just going to hang up now and go to an AT&T store here in town. Bye-Bye.

Then I went to our community center and voted early for the Washoe County and State primary race.

Met my sister and her boss over at Qdoba for lunch. To the Reno Bead Shop to look for two items…didn’t find them but found something else. 🙂

Made two pairs of earrings…I have two birthdays coming up this weekend.

Finished putting together 9 more Crazy Nine Patch quilt blocks using a pattern from OH, FRANSSON!, for total of 18 8″ blocks.

But 18 blocks is not enough to make the quilt as she made it, so I’m just going to make it this way ~ maybe…probably…unless I change my mind.

Ate a bowl-full of these, the most evil nuts on earth…the California pistachio! Why oh why can’t I just stop at a handful?!

Got two new magazines and one quilt book…I love Hobby Farm Home so I picked up a copy of their URBAN FARM: Sustainable City Living magzine. I’m liking it a lot…may subscribe to it too. Haven’t opened up the MOTHER EARTH NEWS yet. And I’ve only flipped through the patterns of PINWHEEL PARTY by Ellen Pahl…I love all pinwheel quilt blocks!

I noticed that the Hawthorne tree is starting to bloom!

And I think that was about it…for dinner I made a tri-tip, salad and dinner rolls. Wrapped up the night with Antiques Road Show.

All went to bed…except Lucy, who woke up from a nap to commence ‘ripping around the house’ time.

New Quilt Blocks ~ Nine Patch Variations

I’ve been looking at different quilting blogs and have come across two that have great tutorials…in which these two have caught my eye. Cluck Cluck Sew’s Disappearing Nine Patch and Oh, Fransson’s Crazy Nine-Patch.

I really like the blocks! Now I just have to figure out how I want to place them into a quilt. 🙂

For the Disappearing Nine Patch, I used two Moda’s Charm Packs that I’ve had for some time…Recess by American Jane. It makes a big block…about 13″.

For the wonky Crazy Nine Patch I picked out 9 different fabrics in the Cheep Talk line from Connecting Threads that I had bought months ago.

This was a fun block to make…although it was a bit hard to cut through the last two cuts. This makes an 8″ block.

I have five 1/2 yard fabrics from the Woodland Bloom line by Lila Tueller for Moda..I want more. Not exactly sure what I want to make with it yet, but I do know I’d like more fabrics from that line. They are VERY pretty. 🙂

UPDATE! I found two more pieces in this line here in town…now I have to turn to the internet.

And lookie! Sun hitting Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain this morning! A teaser from Mom Nature…as we’re getting more rain and snow tomorrow. Picture was taken looking out from the building here at work.
