Sights while geocaching around town

Spent yesterday geocaching around UNR and Spanish Springs, just wanted to share a few of the non-geocaching photographs I took.

Just click on the photographs to enlarge them.

Basque Monument and downtown Reno…the day started cold, damp and breezy.  My fingers and nose were cold for the first five geocaches.

The early morning grey chill opened up to a bright sunny late morning and afternoon!  I headed out to Spanish Springs to collect more geocaches…below are a few sparrows that kept me company along the way.

There’s an old ranch out in Spanish Springs…this is the part that they haven’t turned into a housing development yet…I’m hoping they never do. Great place to walk around with your dogs, bird watch, and geocache!

It’s going to be a beautiful day for geocaching!

Rant – Sierra Adventures in Reno, Nevada

Ok…going to take a few moments and bitch.

Sierra Adventures in downtown Reno…they share a store front in the Riverside Theatre building on North Sierra Street facing the Truckee River. They rent bikes, rafts/tubes, and kayaks.

Sunday, August 31st, we went to the first showing of Ghostbusters (30-Year Anniversary). Movie got out about 1:15’ish. As we come out I see a bus, loaded with tubes and rafts, parked on Sierra between the movies and Campo. Walk down the stairs to the walk and start heading west, next thing I know a guy is not two feet from me and blows his red whistle in my left ear (which is still draining fluid today) and screamed for a couple, who was still at their shop front, to “get the hell on the bus now because we’re leaving”.

First urge was to grab his whistle from his neck and shove it down his throat. But he was already half way back to his bus. So I cursed a blue streak at him. REALLY?! YOU BLOW THAT DAMNED WHISTLE WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE AROUND YOU????

Great way to run your business, ASSHOLE!! You blow out a local’s ear AND scream at paying customers.

A Wednesday Round-up ~ It’s been a while!

Wow…it’s been quite a while since I last blogged. Pop some corn, grab a beer. 🙂

Quilting & Sewing:

Since I brought my new Brother sewing machine home, I’ve putzed around with it. I’m still learning what it can and can not do, but all in all am getting the hang of it.

Had one crafting day with friends…another one coming up. We’re gearing up for a November craft fair.

Canning:

Made up another batch of mustard! Loving the smell and taste of this one! I used Stone Smoke Porter, yellow & brown mustard seed, apple cider vinegar, ground mustard, salt, pepper, allspice, nutmeg. I adapted two recipes I found (Homemade Beer and English Mustard)…it made up 10 4-oz jars. I plan on making a Cranberry Mustard too.

I was given a bag full of clipped lavender from my MIL’s garden earlier and dried it. Part of it is now in a big old canning jar of local Nevada honey with my own dried rosemary. I’ll be putting this into 4-oz canning jars in about two weeks after it’s been strained.

Ghost Hunting:

My sister has quite a few ghost hunting equipment and she booked the Miner’s Shack up in Gold Hill (just south of Virginia City on the Comstock). My niece, Hannah, and her friend Maddie, my sister and I all spent an afternoon in VC and the night in Gold Hill. That was fun! Definitely want to go up with them when they do the Washoe Club in VC.

Carnelian Bay, Lake Tahoe:

Took a Monday off so we could spend Sunday night up at Tahoe. Spent Sunday at one of the free public beaches and Monday morning we tried kayaking (waterman’s landing). So…I’m saving my money up for a sit-in kayak now. 🙂

Birds of Prey at Cabela’s Reno, Nevada ~ 8 June 2013

Today was free fishing day here in Nevada…but we also were up for breaking another high heat record and figured the fish would tell us “screw you…it’s too hot to take your bait” so we went to Cabela’s just west of town. They were having a family outdoor day with fly fishing, shooting, and bow instruction; birds of prey; and snakes.

Just want to show you some of the beautiful girls we met today ~ They were going to have a flying demonstration, but it was too windy and WAY TOO HOT for them. These girls are employed as “pest control”!

For Today ~ 21 November 2012 ~ Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 21 November 2012.

Outside My Window… Partly cloudy…and those clouds are scooting along pretty fast. Most of them dark. Windy. Sun is hitting the hills behind me.

I am thinking… Still have lots to do before we catch the train tomorrow morning. Also very happy it’s snowing up in the mountains! I’ve never taken Amtrak over the Sierra before and fresh snow will be pretty!

I am thankful for… my friends, health, my job.

From the kitchen… Probably grilled cheese sandwiches and soup.

I am wearing… Jeans, waffle-thermal shirt, tennis shoes and my hair in a pony tail.

I am creating… Not really creating, but I am FINALLY finishing up the dresser from my grandma’s house. I had to scrap off about 20 layers of paint. LOL! Still didn’t get it all off, but dang-it! I have to get my butt in gear. Bought Cajun Spice stain. I have one layer of seal on it with one more to go.

Before

After…still needs sealing.

I am going… to go on a train ride! Go on a train ride!

I am reading… The newest NatGeo magazine that came in the mail.

I am hoping… that it’s quiet here at work today.

I am hearing… the winds.

Around the house… it’s clean. How about that?!

One of my favorite things… L’Occitane’s 20% shea butter dry skin hand cream. It’s a must during this time of the year.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… Go on a train ride! Go on a train ride! Oh…and when we get back, go see Alice Cooper on Sunday.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…
