For Today ~ 4 March 2013 ~ Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 04 March 2013

Outside My Window… Blue sky…not a cloud up there (at least facing north). Sparrows and finches on the bird feeder. People going to work.

I am thinking… Why can’t it be nice and sunny for the weekends?

I am thankful for… For not being sick this winter…hopefully I didn’t jinx myself for spring.

From the kitchen… I made a Buffalo Chicken pizza last night (chicken, Frank’s Buffalo Wing Sauce, gorgonzola cheese, celery and green onions). Tonight I’ll probably bbq some chicken and have a salad with it.

I am wearing… Jeans, tennies, grey long-sleeve blouse.

I am creating… I have three quilts I’m working on. I’ve been hand-sewing hexies for a week, but had to take a break for a few days as my wrists are killing me. I have 31 flowers finished now.

Yesterday while it was raining I was working on a quilt with my Denyse Schmidt fabrics. I have 12 finished blocks and 8 more blocks 3/4 way finished.

((Had a question on that mug…we bought it when we stayed at the Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast that I blogged about HERE.))

I am going… resize some pictures I took on Saturday down in Genoa area for tomorrow’s post.

I am reading… All Roads Lead to Austen: A Year-long Journey with Jane by Amy Smith.

I am hoping… That the coming snow stays up in the mountains…and that we’ll have a nice weekend.

I am hearing… Someone walking really really loudly out in the hallway.

Around the house… The condo is cleaned. Kitchen was cleaned, floors vacuumed, laundry washed and put away, clean sheets on the bed…CLEAN!

One of my favorite things… Hearing it rain while falling asleep.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… Keep on quilting. Hopefully pick out a movie that my husband and I both want to see…we still have movie passes.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

FOR TODAY … 30 March 2010

Outside My Window… Grey and cold…snowy. The wind howled last night along with rain that started at 6 pm and continued until it started snow this morning.

I am thinking… not much of anything…my sinus is KILLING me with this new cold front that just moved in.

I am thankful for… my friends.

From the kitchen… Probably orange chicken with steamed rice. Maybe an artichoke. Could be tacos.

I am wearing… Jeans, tennies, and a 3/4 length blue tee, hair in a pony-tail.

I am creating… finished two quilt challenges, need to start planning my niece’s lap quilt. Also need to repair my SIL beaded bookmark that I had made many years ago.

I am going… probably rent a movie for tonight…need to go to redbox.com to see what’s out there.

I am reading… Gee’s Bend Quilt book that I bought off of Amazon.

I am hoping… My constant wish ~ That everyone that is looking for a job, finds one. That the far right and far left loonies just bugger off, stop throwing rocks and cutting gas lines and plotting to kill police, and just leave the rest of us alone.

I am hearing… ice machine, doors slamming, people out in the hallway.

Around the house… probably stuff to pick up in the yard from the wind storm.

One of my favorite things… A kittie snuggle and purr.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… survive this week at work.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

FOR TODAY … 03 November 2008

Outside My Window… Stormy grey sky ~ snow in the mountains ~ breezy. All of the pretty fall leaves in a heap around the base of the trees. Another fast moving winter storm moving in.

I am thinking… Holy Moly! It’s November already! I’m sorta sad because no Trick-O-Treaters came to my house on Halloween. It’s just not like when I was a kid. Big sigh. I’d rather stay home this week and quilt. We need a new (used) truck…the Chevy is on it’s last cylinder. Wonder if I planted a quarter a money tree would grow? Wonder if anyone will let Chopper in today (German Shepherd across the street)…I took him a blanket to lay on last night since it looked like no one was home…he’s such a sweet boy.

I am thankful for… my family.

From the kitchen… I have pork chops defrosting in the frig. Have absolutely no clue what I’m going to do with them though.

I am wearing… blue jeans, tennies and a warm grey pullover top.

I am creating… a crazy quilt with my mom…each are making 10 blocks.

I am going… to finish organizing my fabric stash.

I am reading… I picked up a few Lynn Kurland books that I haven’t read at the local Goodwill store. Star of the Morning, Much Ado in the Moonlight, and Dreams of Stardust. I’m not much into romance books, but dang I love her books.

I am hoping… still hoping that there is some job out there for my husband.

I am hearing… NPR new on my computer, humming of the air system on the roof. Me typing. Pretty quiet all in all.

Around the house… 10 paper grocery bags full of donations to go to St. Vincent’s Thirft Shop. I’ve more to go too…been cleaning and downsizing.

One of my favorite things… watching all the leaves blow by. Friday (Nevada Day and Halloween) I was out and about getting errands done before I sat down to carve the pumpkins and it was a warm stormy day…leaves blowing, dark clouds gathering…Something Wicked This Way Comes! Kept thinking of Macbeth…Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… more quilting and cleaning.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…Leo-Monster discovered he LOVES pumpkin guts. Yummie! More MOM!

FOR TODAY … 16 October 2008

Outside My Window…Sunshine and lots of it. Cold! Frost on the car windows.

I am thinking… What a nice Sunday it was…after church we went to the Ferrari Farms just on the other side of the Truckee River from us. Since I have my pumpkins already from my garden I just took my camera. 🙂 Lots of kids (of all ages!) were excitedly picking the perfect pumpkin.

I am thankful for… Same as last time…Cold nights and warm quilts. Rechargable camera batteries. And that my husband has a job for another 3 weeks.

From the kitchen… – Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies. Oven baked chicken with Hot Cabbage Salad and biscuits. The cabbage turned out yummy.

Just fry up 4 pieces of bacon (cut up into bite size pieces) add 1/2 cup chopped onion then when bacon is crisp and onion is cooked add six cups coarse chopped cabbage and 2 TBSP water, 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, and lots of black pepper. Stir and cook over med-high heat until cabbage is wilted but still somewhat crunchy. Splash in some Apple Cider Vinegar…I did something like 3-4 TBSP worth. Serve immediately.

I am wearing… Jeans and my Tigger sweatshirt with tennis shoes and hair pulled back into a ponytail.

I am creating… A pinwheel lap quilt to donate.

I am going… …to plan a trip to Apple Hill for apples and to wander around the antique stores in Placerville.

I am reading… The Twilight series ~ half way through the last book.

I am hoping… that the temp job my husband is working will just keep him on through the year.

I am hearing… The Adam Carolla Show via my computer.

Around the house… Winterizing the house.

One of my favorite things… Watching kids picking pumpkins.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… Keep working on the quilts. Continue working on the enclosed porch windows. Winterize the garden.

Here is picture thought I’d share with you… Taken at Ferrari Farms yesterday.

FOR TODAY … 06 October 2008

Outside My Window…Sunshine and lots of it. It’s reflecting off of the pumpkin decorations hanging from the ceiling here at work. But this morning I had to SCRAPE my car windows for the first time! Oy!

I am thinking… If I didn’t have to pay California state taxes that I’d really like to live up in Sierra Valley. We had our first snow fall in the mountains Friday night! YEAH! I’m all a’twitter! I’m so excited October is here…it’s my favorite month.

I am thankful for… Cold nights and warm quilts. Rechargable camera batteries.

From the kitchen… – Lots of dirty dishes in the sink…I didn’t wash them yesterday as we went out driving and hiking. I have one more jam (well sorta jam) to make ~ roasted garlic and sweet red onions. Will go great with meats.

I am wearing… Jeans, soft tan 3/4 sleeved cotton shirt, and slip-on tennies..

I am creating… My Fall/Halloween exchange gift for my Secret Pumpkin Friend in one of my groups.

I am going… …have to go to Costco at lunch ~ work items. Then over to Best Buy to buy a cd for my husband’s upcoming birthday. Then over to Michael’s to look around.

I am reading… The Twilight series ~ just started the last book.

I am hoping… that a full-time job comes up within the next 2 weeks as my husband’s temp job will be over next week.

I am hearing… NPR News on my computer.

Around the house… Still cleaning the house, just sent off 5 bags of items I don’t use…matter of fact, some things that I didn’t even know I had! Guess I don’t need them. I think I’ll have lots more soon…cleaning out the clutter.

One of my favorite things… Sitting in the sun on a cool day listening to the creek.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… Keep working on the quilts. And google information on Round Robin Quilting…I’d like to start one in the new year.

Here is picture thought I’d share with you… I have 3 pictures from yesterday’s drive in Sierra Valley. They are from the Chilcoot and Loyalton (my favorite barn is between Loyalton and Sierraville) area.

For Today ~ 15 September 2008 ~ Simple Woman Daybook

FOR TODAY … 15 September 2008

Outside My Window…Another hot day in store ~ 92F-94F. Big sigh. Not a cloud in the sky. Construction workers working on the building next door. Students and lab techs slowly making their way in from the parking lot.

I am thinking…it’s already the 15th of September. Didn’t the month just start?! Where did the last two weeks go? I need a nap. I hope my sister brought the second book of the Twilight series. I’m hungry already! Sheesh. (I think my brain is snapping in different directions today)

I am thankful for… My job, my friends, and the roof over my head…and the possiblity of mid-80F temps later in the week.

From the kitchen… the smell of roasted New Mexican Hatch green chiles…oh so yummy. I made up my own take of a green chile pork posole dish up last night ~ roasted a lot of chiles and then skinned them. Put in one head of garlic and one yellow onion (both from Yerington and Smith Valley, Nevada) into the blender. Heated up a TBSP of canola oil into the cast iron skillet and put the garlic, onion and about 4 cups of shredded pork butt roast (that I slow-cooked all day on Saturday in organic fat-free chicken broth and cumin)…browned it up and then added the minced green chiles. Added some of the strained broth from the pork and two cans of white hominy (drained). Served it with homemade tortillas. We’re having leftovers tonight… 🙂

I am wearing… sundress (my favorite brown and tan striped one) and berks, hair back in a clip.

I am creating… a hemp necklace for my sister…used a spiral weave…can’t figure out how to securely wrap the shark’s tooth (it’s only half of one, so it’s a little harder to wrap).

I am going… …to do payroll after I’m done here.

I am reading… The Twilight series ~ just finished up the first book and hoping my sister brought the second one today. Will pick it up at lunch time.

I am hoping… STILL: that my husband can find a job real quick as he is out of work again (please pray!)…I’m tired of the temporary jobs…as I’m sure he is too. We need a full-time permanent job for him! (I think this is the last week of this job ~ he needs another one lined up!)

I am hearing… The hum of the chillers, my office mate typing and listening to Rob, Arnie & Dawn, and next door office folks

Around the house… We planted a BEAUTIFUL Green Mountain Maple tree out front.

One of my favorite things… trees…especially trees turning colors in the fall. Oaks, Maples and Aspens.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… sandwich the Underground Railroad quilt together and pin-baste it. Cut out some blocks of the Dear Jane quilt so I can start hand-appliquéing.

Here is picture thought I’d share with you…my new tree ~ ACER saccharum ‘Green Mountain’ sugar maple.
