For Today ~ 1 October 2012 ~ A Simple Woman’s Daybook

FOR TODAY … 01 October 2012!!!! It’s OCTOBER! YAY!

Outside My Window… Sun. Going to be another HOT day. SOB! It’s supposed to be in the 70’s NOT THE 90’s! Ok…enough of the rant. Tree’s are changing colors as are the fire bushes. There’s a few wee sunflowers that the birds planted.

I am thinking… Thoughts are scattered today…me thinks the full moon had people weirded out where I live…they kept me up both Saturday and Sunday nights. Headache didn’t help either.

I am thankful for… For allergy meds, since the rabbit brush is blooming for what seems like the 50th time this year.

From the kitchen… Maybe pizza, maybe grilled ham and cheese…not really sure.

I am wearing… Tan cropped pants and a olive green shirt, tennis shoes and my hair down.

I am creating… I took a break from leather/bead wrap bracelets to make my friend, April, her earrings. Sterling silver hammered wire with pearls, silver and purple beads. I don’t like the french wires I put on them so will go look for posts or make them myself.

I am going… try to find out if and when the UP #844 will be coming back east so I can get pictures of her in the canyon west of Reno.

I am reading… Still not finished with The Hobbit. Been flipping through a few different magazines too.

I am hoping… That once this weekend rolls around with the cooler weather that it will STAY.

I am hearing… Cars on McCarran and Enterprise, people walking in the hallway, me typing.

Around the house… is clean! I did a lot of housework yesterday.

One of my favorite things… Pumpkins. Football. Baseball’s scramble to get into the playoffs. My Giants have no worries…so GO Oakland and Detroit!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week… Look for something to wrap my soaps up in…I may just use parchment paper and string.

Here is a picture thought I’d share with you…

Weekend in Photographs ~ Garden, Birds, and Bees…Fabric too!

It’s windy, cloudy, and my left sinus is killing me so I thought I’d just post a few photos I took over the weekend.

A few Denyse Schmidt fabrics in 1/3 yard cuts that I got at Joann's.

Part of my haul from Garden Spot in Sparks...Bee Balm, Dill, Sweet Marjoram, Orange Thyme...Thank you Groupon, $40 for $20!

Tarragon and Chives I planted in one of my old enameled pots. Catnip behind it, Thyme and Oregano to the left, taters in the barrel.

Taters are growing! Taters are growing!

Bee on what I think is an Oregon Grape/Barberry bush...at Crystal Peak Park in Verdi, NV.

Bees were loving the pretty yellow flowers! Loading themselves down with pollen!

Goldfinch along the Truckee River at Crystal Peak Park, Verdi, NV.

My Irises are starting to bloom in the front yard.

Monday’s Rambles…just because I’m a bit scattered today

Big sigh. What a day here at work…6:30 am hit the ground running and it hasn’t stopped! I just keep focusing on the margarita I will be making myself when I get home. 🙂

Over the weekend we stopped off at Lavender Ridge…and proceeded to get a $30 parking ticket “failure to obey traffic sign” ~ parking in the bike lane. WHAT?! I parked on the shoulder of the road! There is no Bike Path sign until you reach the bend in the road near the bridge! There is NO sign at the corner of 4th and Mayberry where I parked. Then on top of it…Lavender Ridge is EXPENSIVE! Patooey. I usually like to buy from local stores…but got so mad that I went to Lowes and bought myself a nice Hidcote lavender plant. It’s in a pot for now…I’ll plant it later next month at my new house when we move. I did love seeing all the bees on the lavender plants there…that was one good thing.

Hidcote Lavender ~ From Gorge Top Garden’s website:

A must have plant for anyone who is trying to create the cottage garden look. Lavender Hidcote is a compact plant growing to a height of only 14 inches, perfect for edging or creating a low growing hedge. Its beautiful blue-green foliage is evergreen and remains attractive throughout the year. The sweet perfumed fragrance of Lavender is strong in both the foliage and the gorgeous deep blue flowers. Flowers first begin to appear in mid July and continue to appear into the later parts of September.

One of my faculty gave me a few tomato plants…this one is loading the maters on! It’s a cherry tomato plant of some sort. The biggest one is about 1″ round with the smallest being 1/8″ round. Also in pots…waiting for the move.

Started back on the ps i quilt along (the one I shelved after realizing it had to be done in three weeks time…”easy peasy” for folks who don’t work outside the home, not so for folks who only have an hour at night every other day or so). I have the top left four sewn together…with the rest in pairs. Will try to work on it more tonight.

How I found Leo the other day…he’s such a bed hog.

Day at Verdi’s Crystal Peak Park

Spent Saturday at Crystal Peak Park over in Verdi…a short hop skip and jump from Reno. The park is right on the Truckee River…and was pretty busy. Looked like the fishing was pretty good by the bridge…lots of fishies were being taken away.
